A Homogeneous preparation of isolated fat cells was prepared by treating adipose tissue with collagenase. The isolated fat cells were very sensative to the actions of insulin on glucose metabolism and responded to a variety of lipolytic hormones with increased production of fatty acids. [The SCI indicates that this paper has been cited over 1,485 since 1964.]
