Biographies

As part of the documentation and mitigation program for NIH Buildings 29 and 29A, twenty-two people who worked in the two buildings between 1955 and 2014, first for the NIH and later for the FDA, were chosen to have biographies completed for this online exhibition. They represent a variety of positions within the two organizations, including Lab Technician, Assistant, Medical Doctor, Administrator, Ph.D., and Director. Some of these people worked in laboratories their whole careers, while others worked in offices, or with animals, or in a combination of several of these roles. Scientific investigators conquered some of the deadliest infectious diseases that scourged America and the world in these two buildings. This list of twenty-two includes some of the most well-known scientists at the NIH and the FDA.

The cards below include the names, birth and death dates (or years they were active in Biologics if still living), their laboratory or division, awards received, and areas of research for each of the twenty-two people. By clicking on the cards, you will be taken to the individual’s biography page.

If you are interested in scientists working in other Institutes or Centers beyond biologics, be sure to check out the Eminent NIHers Gallery as well.
