Dr. Bernice Eddy won a Superior Service Award for her work, including control testing for polio vaccines

Dr. Bernice Eddy  won a Department of Health, Education, and Welfare (DHEW) Superior Service Medal for her work, including control testing for polio vaccines. Eddy received the award in 1967 after working for 30 years at the NIH. The award highlighted her pioneering work on control testing of vaccines for polio-myelitis and respiratory diseases (despite the controversy around the Cutter Incident in 1955), and for her discovery and characterization of tumorigenic viruses.
