My observations on brucellae were unacceptable to those dairymen who had invested in expensive equipment for the production of certified milk. They took pride in producing clean milk, and scorned pasteurization, saying that it could make dirty milk salable. Some of them found it easy to believe that the bacteriologist who warned against the use of raw milk was collaborating with the manufacturers of pasteurizing equipment for the promotion of sales.
