Brady, Roscoe O. (1923-2016)

Roscoe Brady, M.D., was the world's leading researcher on hereditary metabolic storage diseases, also called lipid or lysosomal storage disorders, such as Gaucher, Niemann-Pick, Fabry and Tay-Sachs.

Dr. Brady's NIH laboratory defined much of what is known of their biochemistry, enzymatic bases and metabolic defects. He was the recipient of the Canada Gairdner Award (1973), Lasker Award (1982), and the National Medal of Technology and Innovation (2008), and he was elected to the National Academy of Sciences in 1983 and the National Academy of Medicine in 1985.
