Visit ONHM
Our offices and archives are located on the NIH Bethesda campus in Building 60, formally known as the Mary Woodard Lasker Center for Health Research and Education. The Stetten Museum does not occupy any single, dedicated building. Instead, our exhibits and displays are located across the Bethesda campus.
In-person consultation of our archives is by appointment only, usually on weekdays from 10:00 am to 4:30 pm.
We strongly recommend that you use the Inquiries form below to arrange your visit in advance.
- Non-US citizens must register with NIH before their visit, as described on the NIH Visitor Information page.
- Since NIH is a closed campus, all visitors must enter through a security checkpoint - whether on foot or by car - where they are subject to routine security screening.
- Although on-campus parking is scarce, ONHM may be able to arrange a reserved space next to Building 60.
For information about visiting the NIH campus, see https://www.nih.gov/about-nih/visitor-information.

Rules of conduct for on-site researchers:
- You must check in and out each day. At check-in, you must indicate that you have read these rules and agree to abide by them.
- Our stacks are not open to researchers, and all of our materials are non-circulating.
- For security reasons, no bags or coats can be brought into the reading room. Anything you bring into the research area is subject to check by ONHM staff when you enter and before you depart. No sharp objects are allowed in the building.
- Only pencils are allowed in the reading room. Erasers and ink pens of any type are prohibited.
- Each researcher may examine a maximum of two boxes of materials at a time. Materials must be returned in the same order and condition as they were received.
- Food and open containers are prohibited in research areas. Closed water bottles are allowed, but they must be kept off the research table and away from all ONHM materials.
- Non-flash photography and personal scanning devices are permitted. ONHM can provide a limited number of scans or photocopies on request.
