Archives

The ONHM archives contain documentation related to NIH’s organizational and institutional histories, architectural accounts of NIH's facilities throughout its campuses, personal collections of former NIH employees, and biographical material about individuals associated with NIH.

ONHM’s archives encompass both analog (physical) and digital content; audiovisual, photograph, and book collections; and our oral history initiatives. The physical archives consist of materials such as reports, meeting minutes and agendas, pamphlets, and newsletters. Our digital holdings include files such as social media posts, emails, spreadsheets, and infographics. We also have several special collections from events and entities such as the NIH Alumni Association, NIH centennial, and Human Genetics Research Study Section collections.

ONHM archivists are working to update and upload its collection of finding aids. Updated finding aids can be found through the link below. If you do not see what you are looking for, or you would like to make a research inquiry, you are welcome to write to us at history@nih.gov.

We are also happy to host in-person researchers, but by appointment only. Guidelines for arranging a visit are available here.
