About ONHM
The Office of NIH History and Stetten Museum (ONHM) at the National Institutes of Health (NIH) advances the historical understanding of the biomedical research conducted at the NIH by documenting, preserving, and presentng the history of significant NIH achievements, scientists, policies, and programs to a wide variety of audiences. ONHM helps preserve the memory of how scientific research unfolded: of when and why the work was undertaken; who worked with whom; and what ideas, tools, evidence, and techniques were available at the time. Our collections include instruments, objects, images, films, voices, notebooks, and illustrations, as well as a wide variety of historical documents. ONHM is concerned specifically with the history of NIH research, including the people and events that shaped and conducted that research. The focus on NIH distinguishes ONHM from other federal agencies and offices - including the NIH National Library of Medicine (NLM), whose mandate includes medical history from all of history and from places all over the globe.
